This job holds up well against AI
AI cannot yet do much of what this job actually involves, and people want a real person for this. That preference is the protection. That is about as safe as careers get right now, though it is still worth learning to use the tools well.

The role

As a fundraising manager, you work for a charity or non-profit organisation to bring in the money it needs to survive and grow. You find people and businesses who might want to give money or support, then explain to them what your organisation does and why it matters. You might run fundraising events, write proposals to big funders, or manage social media campaigns asking for donations.

Your day might involve planning a fundraising dinner, meeting potential donors to tell them your charity's story, or analysing which campaigns brought in the most money so you know what to do next time. You need to be creative, good with people, and interested in the cause your charity supports - because your job is to make people believe in it too.

Daily responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies to meet financial targets.
  • Cultivate relationships with existing and potential donors, sponsors, and partners.
  • Organise and oversee fundraising events, ensuring they are engaging and successful.
  • Monitor and analyse fundraising performance, adjusting strategies as necessary.
  • Collaborate with marketing teams to create compelling fundraising campaigns and materials.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for stakeholders to showcase fundraising achievements.
  • Train and mentor junior staff or volunteers involved in fundraising activities.

Does a degree help here?

A UK degree, particularly in fields like marketing, business, or social sciences, provides candidates with a robust understanding of the local market dynamics and cultural nuances. This educational background equips them with essential skills in communication, project management, and analytical thinking, all of which are crucial for success in fundraising.

AI EXPOSURE = the share of a job's day-to-day tasks AI can already do today, from the same exposure engine used across this site (Anthropic labour market research, 2026, observed real-world AI usage by occupation). Higher means more exposed. It is a measurement of now, not a prediction. THE DOOR = how hard the job is to get into, grade A (easy) to E (extremely hard), from each career's published forecast (OpenAI, "The AI Jobs Transition Framework", Richmond 2026, CC BY 4.0). A card marked MOAT NOT YET CLASSIFIED has a real exposure score but no entry yet in our moat register, so we make no claim about what structurally protects it. Scorecard grades and verdicts are Careermash editorial judgment: we show forecasts as forecasts and own our conclusions. Salary and pathway figures are each career's own published profile.
