The role

As a manager or director in retail and wholesale, you're responsible for making sure your shop or warehouse works well and makes money. You plan the sales strategy—which products to push, what prices to charge, when to put things on sale—and you lead a team to make it happen. You solve problems quickly, like when stock runs out or when staff need support.

You watch the money closely: you set budgets, check that you're making a profit, and spot chances to save money or make more. You also keep an eye on what customers want and what your rivals are doing, so you can stay ahead. A big part of your job is leading your team, giving them training, and making sure they give customers good service.

Daily responsibilities

  • Develop and implement effective sales strategies to meet and exceed revenue targets.
  • Oversee inventory management to ensure optimal stock levels and minimize wastage.
  • Lead, mentor, and motivate a diverse team of employees to enhance performance and customer service.
  • Analyze market trends and consumer behavior to identify new business opportunities.
  • Manage budgets, financial forecasting, and reporting to maintain profitability.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and vendors to negotiate favorable terms and improve product offerings.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and company policies.
  • Monitor store operations and implement improvements to enhance efficiency and customer satisfaction.
