How the three piles are decided
One number does the sorting: your UCAS total minus the tariff recent entrants to that course actually held. More than 24 points short of it and the course is a reach. More than 24 points clear of it and it is safe. Anything in between, either side, is a match. That is the whole rule, and it is the same rule for every course.
What the fit score is made of
Fit is out of 100 and it only ever orders your results. It is not a verdict on a course, and no course is hidden because it scores low.
How close your UCAS total is to the tariff recent entrants to that course actually held. Being above it is worth almost as much as being level with it; being far below it costs the most.
Full marks when the course sits in a subject you picked as its main subject, about half when your subject is one of several it covers. Pick nothing and every course takes the same middle share.
Awarded when the university is in a region you named on the location step, and awarded to everything when you name none. It nudges the order, it never hides a course.
Your two priority answers decide the mix: student satisfaction against our overall course score, and graduates in professional roles against the wider student experience.
Where every number comes from
Typical entry
The weighted median UCAS tariff that recent entrants to the course actually held, from HESA. It is a description of who got in, not a published offer or a cut off.
Median pay
Graduate Outcomes, the national survey of graduates 15 months after they finished. It is one course, one cohort, one moment: read it as a signal, not a salary promise.
Satisfaction
The National Student Survey, answered by final year students on that course. Where a course has no published NSS figure the card says so.
Professional jobs
The share of a course's graduates in professional roles, from the same graduate outcomes data. Blank where nothing is published.
A tariff is not a promise and a match is not an offer: universities make offers on the whole application, and courses hold conditions this tool cannot see. Where a course has no published figure for pay, satisfaction or professional jobs, its card says not published rather than filling the gap with an estimate.
