About this course
Physics is the most fundamental of the natural sciences, concerned with understanding the basic laws that govern the behaviour of matter and energy, from the smallest subatomic particles to the largest structures in the universe. It is a discipline built on mathematical rigour and experimental creativity, requiring you to construct precise models of physical systems, test them against measurement, and revise them when the evidence demands it. Physics trains a way of thinking that is analytical, quantitative, and deeply committed to getting things right, and that way of thinking is valuable far beyond the discipline itself. At Cardiff University this three-year full-time programme gives you a thorough grounding in the core areas of physics, including classical and quantum mechanics, electromagnetism, thermodynamics, optics, and special relativity, as well as an introduction to areas at t
